Moong Dal by Saveen Kaur

Moong Dal is one of my favourite dal.

It is very light and hence easy to digest.  It taste great in itself but if you want you can make it even more interesting.
It tastes amazing with plain rice and pickle. You can also sprinkle some crushed papad, it tastes mind blowing. You can also use green chutney instead of pickle.

One of the best benefits of Moong Dal is that it is rich in protein but low in calories so a great option
for people who want to keep their weight in control.

I had shared the recipe of this few years back on the blog, I thought of sharing it again because it is so simple, basic and good!

Ingredients

1 cup Moong dal soaked in water for half an hour
1 onion chopped
1 tomato chopped (optional - I prefer my this Dal without it)
1 tsp salt or to taste
1 tsp turmeric powder

For tempering -

1 tbsp Ghee
4 - 5 curry leaves
2 - 3 green chillies chopped
1 tsp cumin seeds
1 tsp red chilli powder
1 tsp mustard seeds

Chopped Coriander for garnishing

Method

Boil 2 glasses of water in a pan, drain the water from the soaked dal and add the dal in this water.
Add chopped onion, chopped tomatoes, salt and turmeric powder.
Cook till done on slow flame. It takes a lot of time like this but you get an excellent flavour of the dal.

While Serving -

For Tempering

Heat Ghee in a kadhai. Add mustard seeds, let them splutter, add cumin seeds, then add curry leaves and chopped green chillies.
Pour the cook dal over it.
Add red chilli powder and mix it well.
Add chopped coriander and mix well.
Transfer it in the serving bowl and garnish it with chopped coriander.
Relish it with hot plain Rice or Pulao or Roti.

Happy Cooking Happy Relishing 😊

Love 💕
